Last night I happened to notice on the website of the only local radio station to play Duran Duran's new single so far, 96.3, that they were going to interview Simon this morning! In fact I made Sara go and look at it, just to be sure I wasn't halucinating.
Only problem, the show during which they would interview him runs from 5:30 am to 10:30 am. Um, yeah, I love the boys, but no way am I getting up at 5:30 am on my day off...
HOWEVER, when my clock radio's alarm went off at 9:30, they were just introducing him! So I got to lie in bed and listen to him talking about wanting to have a homosexual experience with David Bowie. A nice little way to start my day. (David Bowie is his *Duran Duran* - the person he always wanted to meet while growing up, and according to him the only male with whom he would consider the afore mentioned "experience.")
Simon also hinted at a tour in December, with a date in Detroit around Christmas. I won't hold my breath for that to be terribly accurate, but it was good to hear him sounding so enthusiastic about the idea.
He mentioned the two weeks of shows on Broadway that are to happen this November. Would be nice to see, but wish they'd spread the wealth around the country a little bit.
The DJ's on this station were a little goofy during the interview, but I often get the impression that 96.3 is a mid way stop for those newish to the business. One gal who was sort of fawning over Simon said she had to go throw up after, because she was so excited to have been talking to her childhood hero. That made me laugh.
Simon seemed to be in a very playful mood, and even took the (IMO) rude question about Nick's makeup use (particularly in the Wild Boy era) in stride. "Mad Max Factor" indeed.
And it was nice of Simon to stick around to record a promo bit for them, instead of just hanging up once the Q&A portion was done.
So, I was in a pretty good mood this morning.
Good thing, cos today was our annual "Birthday Tiger's Baseball Game" with David... (I think it's the 28th game)
As you may recall, last year we went to a night game, and it was rainy and about 54 degrees. We frozeded our butts.
Today was an afternoon game, and it was just about perfect. The day started out in the 60's but quickly warmed to the low 70's with a light breeze, and some occassional clouds masses to give some relief from the glare.
We had better seats than last year, too. Last year we were about 3 rows from the very back of the upper deck, today we were in the 13th row, lower deck.
All in all it would have been an ideal day, if only the Tigers could have gotten their freaking act together!
We should have known it was to be a lost cause when the Rangers got their first home run because one of the Tigers accidentally knocked the ball over the fence with his glove whilst trying to catch it. Der.
And yes, I said "first home run." The Rangers actually got 7 total. Uh huh. We left after their 5th one, which had given them 11 runs. It was too horrible to watch. The Tigers did briefly rally in the 8th, but the game still ended up Tigs 6, Rangers 13. Oy.
Also, three players got hit by balls during the game. And one of them was the runner! That pretty much never happens, and it counts as an automatic out. In fact David made me write that on the scorecard, longhand, "runner got hit by the ball, that never happens!"
The game was the first half of a double header and the Tigers did win the 2nd half, but naturally we didn't stay for that one.
Some pics:
David was illuminated.
Sara warms up to the idea.
Pre disaster scoreboard (before the massacre began in earnest)
For Pete (cos his last name is Mayor n all)
Swing batter!
The people seated two rows behind us won free pizza. (that's the team mascot, Paws handing it over) We got to be on the big jumbotron because of it! We did again later, too, when a foul ball landed 3 rows back.

Are we having fun yet?
Anyhow, before leaving them to their misery we wandered the souvenier shop for a bit, then headed home.
David went home shortly after that, cos he had to go audition fairies for UMGASS.
Sara, I, and Dad went out to dinner. We didn't go to Dad's favorite restaurant, Leon's, because they had a fire in their kitchen at 3:30 am last night (they were closed at the time)!! But we settled for an acceptable second choice.
Then we went to the grocery store. Well, Sara and Dad waited in the car, and I shopped, heh.
Dad had had a busy day, too! A visiting nurse came to check on him, and set up regular visits for the nurse and a physical therapist, in order to get his arm usable again. And then his best childhood chum, Clifford, came to visit him! He was unaware Dad had been in the hospital (Dad had asked me to only notify a few people) so it was a happy accident that he was in town the day after Dad got released.
Dad seemed to be in quite good spirits after we got home from dinner 'n shopping. I think it did him a world of good to get out 'n about after his two weeks of confinement.
Plus, he had tried driving the car in the afternoon, and found he could still manage it, so he'll be able to get his own self to dialysis 3 times a week. A huge load off his mind, I'm sure.
All in all, a nice (if busy!) day off.
